Multiple sclerosis

Innovative rehabilitation and individual therapy for people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that affects both the brain and the spinal cord. The CNS controls not only thinking and cognitive performance, but also motor movement, muscle coordination, the sensation of touch, temperature and pressure as well as the perception of movement in space. In MS, the immune system attacks the nerve fibers and destroys the protective myelin sheaths. This can result in a variety of symptoms, depending on the location and extent of the inflammation. Typical symptoms include muscle weakness, coordination problems, sensory disturbances and fatigue. MS progresses individually - symptoms can occur in episodes or progress continuously. Early diagnosis and treatment help to maintain quality of life and slow down the progression of the disease.

Therapeutic approach

Neurophysiological movement therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy are central components of MS treatment. The goals of therapy are to maintain or regain independence, eliminate strain and painful movement patterns, reduce gait disorders and improve quality of life. The therapy is individually adapted and can include robot-assisted procedures (e.g. Lokomat), aids and regular adjustments to the therapy plan.
